Date: 3rd Thursday, 18 June 2026; 10th Annual Day.
Founder: Global Action Plan – a UK-based environmental charity
Objectives:
Clean Air Day is observed annually in the UK on the third Thursday of June for the following purposes:
- Improve Public Understanding: Raise awareness about air pollution, both indoors and outdoors.
- Build Health Awareness: Educate the public on how air pollution affects our health.
- Inspire Active Participation: Encourage behavioral and organizational changes to clean our air and protect the environment.
Inception:
Clean Air Day was officially held for the first time in 2017.
Background:
The WHO and the UK Government recognize that air pollution is our most significant environmental health risk. It causes heart and lung diseases, is linked to low birth weight and children’s lung development, and may even contribute to mental health issues. Every year, air pollution causes up to 43,000 deaths in the UK. Clean Air Day is the UK’s largest air pollution campaign.
