International Day for Biological Diversity
Date: Wednesday, 22 May 2019
Inception: It was first created by the Second Committee of the UN General Assembly in late 1993. Initially, 29 December was designated The International Day for Biological Diversity. Given the difficulty for many countries to plan and carry out suitable celebrations for the date of 29 December, it was changed to 22 May since 2000.

Objective: It aims to increase understanding and awareness of global biodiversity issues.
