In 2009, the European Wind Energy Association collaborated with the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and made the Wind Day a worldwide event.
Why do we mark the Global Wind Day?
Wind is a sustainable source of energy that will never run out. It is one of the most cost-effective sources of energy known today. Wind energy is not dependent upon fossil fuels, making it a clean energy source. Investing in wind energy means spending less money on fossil fuel imports and reducing CO2 emissions. It is one of effective solutions to help lessen pollutants and mitigate climate warming on our planet.
Many companies, governments, and other industries have adopted wind energy as an alternative power source. According to the International Energy Agency, wind energy covers approximately 5% of the world’s electricity consumption at present. It is projected that it will reach 9% of the world’s electricity demand and more than 24% of European demand for electricity by 2030.
The Global Wind Day is an important day for people to learn more about wind and this important type of energy. It is an important opportunity to promote the usage of wind energy in daily life and business.
