Objectives:
World Wood Day is annually observed around the world for the following purposes:
- to recognize the importance of wood and wood use in our daily lives, and
- to promote a harmonious coexistence between people and nature.
Inception:
The inaugural celebration of World Wood Day took place in 2013 in Tanzania.
History:
World Wood Day was established by the International Wood Culture Society, a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting, educating, and researching wood culture. The World Wood Day Foundation coordinates the event.
Each year, the World Wood Day is observed worldwide to coincide with the International Day of Forests.

2023 theme: “Wood in Cultural Heritage.”
2022 theme: “Trees for Good: Challenges, Opportunities, Sustainability.”
2021 theme: “CO2 & Wood”

The Department of Forrest Products Development and Uttilization in Forestry Research Research Institute of Nigeria is actively making preparations towards this year’s event even more than we did last year.
We hope that this year’s program will send a resounding message to the whole world on why wood must be used responsibly to combat global warming.

In 2023, Department of Forest Products Development and Utilisation, Forestry research institute of Nigeria, Ibadan joined the entire world to celebrate World Wood Day 2023. It was a time of woodcraft exhibition, sensitation and lecture by an erudite scholar in line with the 2023 WWD theme.
Meanwhile, all hands on deck and preparation si ongoing for WWD 2024 programme.
