Purposes:
World Children’s Day is annually celebrated to raise awareness of children’s problems, improve child welfare worldwide, advocate children’s rights, and promote togetherness among children.
History:
The United Nations first established World Children’s Day in 1954 as Universal Children’s Day (A/RES/836(IX)), which is celebrated on 20 November every year.
The UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child on 20 November 1959 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child on 20 November 1989.
